Suggested Supply List

Paper or Board

  • 11 x 14 pastel paper or any surface that is recommended for pastel. I prefer a smoother surface and often use Museum Board, but any surface for pastel can be used. Mount your paper to a board or foam core attached using artists tape or any type of gentle adhesive tape.
  • Pastels - Pencils

  • There are many brands to choose from. I personally like and use Faber-Castell’s Pitt, Carb-Othello, and Conte. Soft pastel sticks. I use Rembrandt, but if you have another brand you can use that as well. For this project have a variety of earth tones to represent fur and nature as well as white, ivory, black, and a mix of grays. Most sets have a wide range to choose from.
  • Blending Tools

  • Blending stumps, scraps of flannel cloth, small cosmetic sponge. These are a few suggestions and gives you a variety to play around with. Many times our fingers are used to blend the pastel.
  • Erasers

  • A clean kneaded eraser. Optional - a pink and a white eraser.
